Your Prescription for EDID Management with PureMedia
Connectivity issues, from blinking screens to color blocks to complete signal loss, can easily be resolved by selecting the right cable and distribution equipment. However, ensuring proper EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) communication between sources and displays is considerably more challenging and is a major cause of failure in digital connectivity systems. The transition to digital interfacing has created various levels of EDID implementation for HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort, requiring a successful EDID “handshake” between a display and a source to establish a connection.
The Diagnosis
One key area where installers will commonly face communication issues is transmitting EDID data from a source device to a display using a Dynamic Data Channel (DDC), with no image display at the most common symptom. DDC is a standard for communication between a monitor and a display adapter or graphics card.
It is important that all display device connections including cables (e.g. VGA, DVI or HDMI), splitters, amplifiers, repeaters and converters support DDC in order for the display device’s EDID information to be available. For example, many pro-A/V systems require video signals to be distributed or routed to multiple displays. What happens if multiple video sources or multiple displays with different native resolutions are connected to the matrix router? Since most matrix routers can only read EDID from one source, the output resolution will be mismatched on all the displays.
The Cure: EDID Management at Every Output
PureMedia offers the only matrix routing system with an auto-scaling feature built-in to each EDID-compatible output card. As each video display is connected to an output card in the matrix router, it immediately reads the pre-set EDID data and automatically adjusts the display settings. The result is a quick, clean switch from source to display without any disparities in the image size, position, or aspect ratio. This EDID information is constantly available to source devices through PureMedia without the need for additional EDID emulation devices. Combined with the industry’s fastest switching speeds powered by PureLink’s “Don’t Blink Technology,” PureMedia Matrix Routing Systems with EDID management provide an ultra-fast, glitch-free signal distribution solution.
